Do we really know what causes cellulite?

Did you know that as many as 90% of women have cellulite? Yes, amazing, isn’t it? And before you can get rid of cellulite, you need to know what causes it, so you know how to approach this situation. As you probably know by now, there are numerous ways to remove cellulite and definitely not all of them actually work. So, you really need to be careful what you’re doing, otherwise you’ll just waste your precious time.

So, let’s see what causes cellulite in the first place…

Fat cells are arranged in chambers surrounded by bands of connective tissue called septae. As water is retained, fat cells held within the perimeters of this area expand and stretch the connective tissue. This connective tissue then contracts and hardens, holding the skin at a non-flexible length, while at the same time, the surrounding tissue continues to expand with weight, or water gain.

This refers to the dimpled appearance of the skin that some people have on their hips, thighs, and buttocks. So we can say that the lumpiness of cellulite is caused by fat deposits that push and distort the connective tissues beneath skin, leading to the characteristic changes in appearance of the skin.

In men, not only is there generally less fat on the thighs, but also the outer skin is thicker and thus obscures what is happening to any surplus fat below. Luckily, there are so many ways to combat cellulite that would ensure these women that they won’t have to put up with them for long.

As cellulite is such a widespread problem, how to get rid of cellulite is a very common question. Scientists and researchers across the world are working at creating better cellulite removal techniques and in our future posts, we will look into some of the most effective ones.
